HAIR AND MAKEUP NOTES FOR THE 1880s (MEN)

EXTRAS THE GILDED AGE MAKEUP NOTES:

ALL GENTLEMEN:

Specific groups….

Footmen and young staff:

  • Please come clean shaven, NO FACIAL HAIR PLEASE

Butlers, Chefs:

  • Please come CLEAN SHAVEN, we welcome sideburns and mustaches

  • If you have facial hair/sideburns, be prepared to have your facial hair shaved or groomed into the shape for the period.

  • If you have no facial hair be prepared for us to put something on you.

Upper and Middle Class:

  • We love all kinds of long/full mustaches, beards and sideburns. The bigger the better

  • NO stubble to 2 weeks growth (we need full facial hair) otherwise come CLEAN SHAVEN

  • If you have facial hair/sideburns, be prepared to have your facial hair shaved or groomed into the shape for the period.

  • If you have no facial hair be prepared for us to put something on you.

Lower and Working Class

  • Stubble welcome (no more than 1-5 day growth)

  • We love all kinds long/full facial hair: mustaches, beards and sideburns.

  • Be prepared to have your facial hair groomed or shaved into shape for the period.

  • If you have no facial hair, with or without stubble be prepared for us to put something on you.

ALL LADIES:

  • Please come with NO makeup on, but moisturized/sun-screened

  • NO NAIL POLISH, NO GELS or EXTENSIONS, NO SQUARE SHAPENO LASH EXTENSIONS
    NO TATTOOED MAKEUP

  • Please keep your brows as natural as possible

  • Please bring your own mascara in case we decide to put a tiny little bit on. Please bring your own lip balm

  • DO NOT SNEAK ON MAKEUP AFTER YOU HAVE BEEN THOUGH THE WORKS The design is very specific to the period.

 

Please note for MEN: the hair/makeup department will likely alter your appearance to a variation of a look pictured below. (In other words, if you have a full beard, mustache, or sideburns, they may want to trim/shape/alter)
